Battery Safety

Maintaining the highest level of accuracy and picking out defective products are crucial in preventing battery explosions. To do so, battery manufacturers are adopting machine vision solutions throughout all stages of the manufacturing process, namely the electrode manufacturing process.

Line scan cameras are commonly utilized in electrode manufacturing. The coating, drying, and calendaring processes of electrode manufacturing are performed by a roll-to-roll machine in one continuous process. Because the target is constantly moving in a roll-to-roll process, line scan cameras are optimal as they can effectively capture larger targets and respond dynamically to changes in the speeds of the targets. The resolution required for inspection and measurement varies by application, but more often than not falls between 20 to 50µm per pixel. A machine vision solution that meets the required resolution can inspect not only for foreign matters but also whether the anode and cathode materials have been correctly applied to appropriate areas at correct intervals.

Vieworks‘ line scan cameras VL Series and industrial lenses VEO HJ Series are an established combination for machine vision inspection in electrode manufacturing. With a sensor width of 56mm, the 8k and 16k line scan cameras VL-8K and VL-16K perform best when paired with VEO_HJ APO 4.0/60. VEO HJ Series is optimized for image circle diameter of up to 60mm and demonstrates up to 0.5x magnification. The high-performance VEO HJ Series is a series of lenses codeveloped by Vieworks and Schneider Kreuznach, distributed exclusively by Vieworks.
