@MZ_Grundschrift:While 10GigE is gaining momentum, frame-grabber based interfaces are still widely used for very demanding applications. This is going to change with the standardization of GigE Vision 3.0 supporting RDMA based on the RoCE v2 protocol. The key benefits of RDMA include very high bandwidth, high robustness using real-time packet retransmission and low CPU utilization. Setups scale from direct point-to-point to large camera networks using Ethernet switches. Cost effective standard network cards providing up to 400Gbps are available from multiple big vendors. Since RDMA has been used in several other demanding industries for years, direct support is available from operating system and PC vendors. Finally, RDMA will be directly supported by third party machine vision software vendors simplifying the integration process. Baumer has developed one of the most powerful line-ups of 10GigE cameras in close cooperation with customers. We are now expanding the functionalities to include RDMA technology. To further improve the system performance, RDMA will be offered as a firmware update starting with Sony Gen 4 sensors up to 24MP. Setups with four cameras connected to two dual port 10G network cards as well as 16 cameras connected to a switch and a single dual port 100G network card were tested. CPU utilization on a modern PC is just 2% and 4% respectively. Occasional transmission errors were corrected and all frames were successfully received over an extended period. For even higher performance, Baumer developed a new performance board level camera platform supporting up to 100GigE. The first product will support two 24 MP image sensors at 100 fps each. We expect GigE Vision to expand its dominance for mainstream cameras towards the performance segment. The ongoing development of core technologies like Ethernet supporting 800+ Gbps makes this approach cost-effective, scalable and future proof. @MZ_Grundschrift:Hall 8 | Booth D40
