When it comes to Edmund Optics, the first thing that comes to mind for many users is lenses & filters. Your portfolio is significantly larger. How many percent do lenses actually make up of total sales? Marisa Edmund: Imaging lens assemblies make up about 14% of our total sales. You’re correct; we have a large portfolio, with over 34,000 off-the-shelf products. We have dedicated teams of experts and specialized product offerings for our key focus areas, such as machine vision, laser optics, and life sciences. Additionally, our custom manufacturing capabilities and strategic partnerships support each of these areas. Which new products is Edmund presenting at Vision?

Our product demos will highlight waterproof imaging lenses for autonomous outdoor systems, as well as SWIR telecentric lenses ideal for use with the newer, more affordable SWIR sensors. We’ll also highlight our compact and lightweight UAV Series Fixed Focal Length Lenses, which are designed specifically for drone mapping and surveying, aerial imaging, and photogrammetry. While these product highlights will hopefully provide value to the show attendees, we guide customers through developing full imaging solutions beyond just supplying the imaging components themselves. Edmund Optics was recently certified as a Women Business Enterprise (WBE). What’s it all about?

Great question! Edmund Optics has been a family-owned company since its inception in 1942. As the family expanded from generation one to generation two to generation three and now to generation four, the family ownership of the company is now majority female. In addition, I am now the Chairman of Edmund Optics, making it a female-led company as well. As you may know, we also have several women in key leadership positions such as Jeanne Davie (Chief Human Resources Officer), Linda Fonner (Chief Financial Officer), and myself as Chief Sales & Marketing Officer. Within our global staff, women represent 41% of total staff and of our technical staff, 24% are also women. Plus, our Board of Directors is 50% women. We believe this makes us rather unique in the photonics industry and hopefully setting the stage to welcome more women into the industry and more importantly, into leadership positions. Our designation as a Women Business Enterprise is just one facet of our larger equity, diversity and inclusion program that sets strategy, training and events at all of our global locations and is facilitated by our international team of culture ambassadors. At Edmund, we embrace a culture of mutual respect and deep collaboration amongst all aspects of the company. Our certification as a women-owned company further demonstrates our commitment to these core values and the importance of equity.
