RF meets Vision

  • RF 28mm F2.8 STM wide-angle lens: This lens (like the RF 50mm F1.8 IS STM) is one of the most affordable lenses in the RF range. Compared to its EF predecessor, it is much more compact: the distance from the front line to the image plane is 45 instead of 95mm. The shortest shooting distance is 23cm, and focusing works incredibly quickly. Together with the Birger RF adapter, it forms a compact unit.
  • RF 600mm F11 IS STM super telephoto lens: Together with the RF 800mm F11 IS STM, this super telephoto lens is the most affordable solution with remote-controlled focusing. In applications that require a long focal length and where there is sufficient light, it offers an unbeatable cost/benefit ratio. Even in low-light applications, the two RF lenses can be helpful in developing prototypes – at a fraction of the price of a fast telephoto lens.
  • RF 24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z: This new development is the first hybrid zoom lens for photos and videos whose focal length can be adjusted remotely using the optional power zoom motors. The only comparable lens is the Canon CN-E 18-80mm T4.4 L IS KAS S Compact Servo Cinema Lens. However, the focusing and aperture control of the RF lens are significantly faster in comparison. The focus breathing effect is practically zero. The motorized zoom adjustment is ideal for applications in production control, where objects of different sizes are inspected and the focus plane varies. @MZ_Grundschrift: @MZ_Grundschrift:Switching from EF to RF adapter @MZ_Grundschrift:For manufacturers and users of industrial cameras, the question arises as to how the switch from the Birger EF adapter to the RF version works. „Both the Birger software and the electrical connection are compatible,“ explains Widding, adding: „Our existing customers can connect the adapter to their systems and will receive comparable results.“ Industrial camera manufacturers also benefit from the RF adapter. Reto Huber, Engineering Manager at AOS Technologies, manufacturer of high-speed cameras and streaming systems for demanding applications, explains the advantages of the RF adapter in conjunction with AOS cameras: „Thanks to the shortened flange focal distance, the RF lenses are better suited to our compact cameras. Extremely fast lenses such as the Canon RF 50mm F1.2 L USM and the RF 85mm F1.2 L USM are ideal for high-speed shots, as these require very short shutter speeds, which means a high light requirement.“ Electronic control is also crucial for seamless adaptation of the lenses to the cameras. „Since Birger has many years of experience in controlling Canon lenses their communication protocol was already integrated into our firmware, the cooperation with Birger has significantly reduced development effort and time,“ says Huber.
