New Sensors combine CCS and CMOS

LACera (Large Area CMOS) is a new technology, developed by Teledyne Imaging, that combines CCD-like sensor performance with the advantages of back-illuminated CMOS architecture. It delivers deep-cooled, low-noise performance on a multi-megapixel scale with large pixels, global shutter, 18bit readout, glow reduction technology and greater than 90% quantum efficiency – a combination of performance not previously available in wafer scale sensors. The new technology will be featured in next generation CMOS cameras to be announced later this year and includes x-ray, EUV and VIS-NIR versions.
